Week 50 - Adverse Drug Reactions

"There are over 100,000 deaths due to properly prescribed and properly administered medication. There are another 80,000 deaths due to improperly prescribed or improperly consumed medication. These 180,000 deaths makes adverse drug reactions the third leading cause of death in the US and Canada. When a drug is first released by the FDA for use by the general public, less than one-half of the serious adverse drug reactions are known. This means that they find out the other 50% from you-the general public. This is why I have a chapter called The Great Clinical Trial-You in my book Death by Prescription.
